The 2017 Honda CB1100 RS and CRF250 Rally demonstrate two substantially different methods of leaving the house on a motorcycle. The CB1100 RS is a large, road-focused retro machine with an air-cooled four-cylinder engine. The CRF250 Rally is a lightweight dual-sport single with long-travel suspension, narrow bodywork and rally-inspired wind protection.
Both were offered in European and other international markets for 2017. They are not direct competitors, but the comparison is useful for riders deciding whether their journeys involve sweeping pavement, unsealed roads or an optimistic mixture of both.

Which Honda Suits Which Rider?
The CB1100 RS delivers considerably more acceleration and effortless road speed. Compared with the standard CB1100 EX, the RS received sharper steering geometry, 17-inch wheels, wider tires, upgraded Showa suspension and radial-mount front brake calipers. Its upright posture and smooth engine suit weekend road rides, although its weight is impossible to misplace in a parking lot.
The CRF250 Rally trades power for reach and versatility. A 10.1-liter fuel tank, protective bodywork, 270 mm of ground clearance and long suspension travel make it better suited to rough roads and light trail use. Its low-output single is economical and manageable, but passing performance requires planning rather than a casual twist of the wrist.
Choose the CB1100 RS for road performance, classic styling and four-cylinder character. Choose the CRF250 Rally for lower running costs, uneven surfaces and exploration where a 252 kg roadster would become a very handsome liability.
