So, as I’m sure any of my readers can tell you, I’m a Taco fan.
What I wear in my secret heart: I love my Tacoma SR5, but I always wonder… what if I’d ponied up for the Off-Road instead?
Truth is, I’ve talked with folks who’ve driven them, and the drivers all love the Off-Road cut. But seeing is believing, and one helpful reviewer gave us the first person view of him cutting loose and just enjoying some very wholesome RPMs in the California badlands.
See for yourself:
Let’s talk turkey: This Tacoma Off-Road starts at $41,800. What an absurdly good deal for such a capable off-roading rig. I hate how expensive pickups have gotten generally, I’d love access to something smalller and cheaper like a HiLux, but here in the real world, that pricing is hard to beat.
The Rock Crawling That Speaks for Itself.
Here’s the 2018 Tacoma TRD Off-Road, a 3rd Gen like my Tacoma SR5. Full mod sheet listed on Youtube, nothing outrageously spendy.
I’ll be honest, my heaviest off-roading has been the dirt road to trailheads or rolling over very tame primitive campsites to park the trailer. Or, you know, the mud of a build site. Nothing crazy.
To me, this is absolutely insane.
It sparks joy in my hoodrat heart that the engineers at Toyota aren’t asking why you want to do this stuff, they’re just handing you the tools to get it done.
