Well folks, we’ve seen a lot of wild wrecks at King of the Hammers, but this one? This one is special.
In what can only be described as a world record for fastest off-road DNF, a Tesla Cybertruck met its untimely end in the parking lot… before the race even started.
Update: I knew this story rang a bell… this happened LAST YEAR, too! Some chuckleheads were doing donuts just a couple yards away from the parking lot, and their whole Cybertruck wheel popped off! Ironically, it’s the Cybertruck with “Invincible” written on the side. That tag might have been a bit… aspirational.
The King of Hammers… Parking Lot
King of the Hammers is one of the toughest off-road races in the world, a brutal mix of high-speed desert running and extreme rock-crawling that chews up even the gnarliest purpose-built rigs. The kind of terrain where busted axles and blown differentials are part of the cost of admission.
What it is not known for is rollovers before you even make it to the start line. But hey, there’s a first time for everything.

Video from the scene shows two absolute knuckleheads in a Cybertruck, looks like they were showboating with donuts in the parking lot. If you’ve ever driven a high-torque EV, you know that its got acceleration on tap, and if you’re not careful, it gets away from you fast. FAFO. The Cybertruck caught, hooked, and flipped, coming to rest on its side with a shattered glass roof.
“Gently… Gently…!” *Glass Breaking Sounds*
Well, at least it’s a good crowd out in the California badlands. Here’s several friendly hoonigans performing a… erm… manual recovery.
The occupants? Totally fine. The truck? Probably shot.
Warranty Coverage? Uh, About That…
There’s good news and bad news here.
The bad news? Tesla’s Cybertruck warranty explicitly does not cover off-road damage. Seriously. You might assume an “apocalypse-proof” vehicle would at least be covered when used in the dirt, but nope. If you break it off-road, that’s on you.
The good news? Since this disaster happened before they even left the parking lot, maybe they can argue it was actually an on-road accident. Worth a shot?
Here’s Some Good Wholesome Off-Roading
To wash that taste out of your mouth, here’s actual off-road machines tackling actual off-road terrain at King of the Hammers 2025.
Great spot to watch race.

A quick lesson for anyone out there looking to bring their Cybertruck to do off-roading: start real slow, learn the truck, and maybe if you try hard and Elon believes in you, you’ll get out of the parking lot before rolling it.
