A New Nickname for the CyberTruck: The Swasticar

Every great car has a nickname. So, like Toyota Tacoma fans call them “Tacos,” and Subaru fans call their AWD cars “Subies,” Tesla drivers have been a little short-changed.

The Cybertruck is, as usual, an exception. When it comes to the 2024 Tesla Cybertruck, the internet (and Twitter in particular) has had no shortage of nicknames for the controversial EV truck.

Some CyberTruck nicknames I’ve come across:

  • Deplorean
  • Wankpanzer
  • Failblazer
  • Incel Camino
  • Canyonero (apparently a deep cut Simpsons reference about a truck that’s endorsed by a clown.)

The list goes on. A newly minted moniker as of this week… The Swasticar!

The nicknames always sort of hinted at Elon’s far-right political transformation, but after his performance at the Presidential Inauguration, the comparisons are (like Elon) out of the closet.

Let’s Get One Thing Out of the Way… You Know What You Saw.

There’s been a flurry of debate since the Presidential Inauguration.

Some of it has been reasonable, centered around what Elon’s intention was when he offered two straight-arm salutes to the crowd.

Let’s clear it up, though, you know what this gesture is, and denying that it happened is an unreasonable hot take:

(Edit: Oh, that’s vexing! Reddit took down the first video I linked. Probably because of hate-speech laws, LOL. Here’s another.)

Another angle: Elon Musk doing a Nazi salute twice

The embedded Reddit link below, I’ll leave it for the record, but it’s been removed for some unknown reason. Hm, interestinggg!

Even uglier – Different angle of Elon Musk’s Nazi salute.

Honestly, I’m more concerned about the crowd’s reaction. The sudden hush over the crowd, as they realized what they were seeing. And then the rapturous applause. That kid in the background who reacts with obvious delight? That worries me.

Intentional? Unclear. Does it matter? Not much.

Interestingly, the actual white nationalists love the signaling. They’re positively fawning in their reviews. Fringe far-right figures embracing the world’s richest man and electric car magnate… I did not have that on my bingo card!
