Cybertruck Arrives for Testing in China, Local RedNote Users Not Impressed

Every now and again, we cover automotive news from our friends out east. Here’s a funny RedNote post from a mystified local car commentator in Tianjin, China.

It appears as though the Cybertruck has been imported, and it is sitting in front of an equipment testing and benchmarking laboratory!

Unimpressed by the Cybertruck Build Quality

The subtitle reaction from our friends in Tianjin is pretty hilarious, though: “It looks like I welded it myself.”

Cybertruck testing in Tianjin 1

Research & Development (with Chinese Characteristics)

The laboratory must be putting it through the paces to see what Tesla is up to in other markets, since the Cybertruck is not authorized for import as a private vehicle. That doesn’t stop gray-market traders (more on that in a minute), but this one appears to be on the up and up.

Also of interest: note the specifications typed on the passenger side door, and the measurement tape that is often used for crash testing on the back tailgate. This Cybertruck may be getting more rigorous testing in China than it ever got to enter the American market, where it is conspicuously untested by the NHTSA.

I wonder how it held up under the Chinese testing? I suppose the Chinese automotive industry now knows more about the safety characteristics of the 2024 Cybertruck than the American safety regulators.

God, this is a comedy publication (with automotive characteristics), but reality just keeps writing better punchlines than I can!
